Michael Ray Stepanek, who told police he drove through a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters in August because they needed “an attitude adjustment,” will avoid prison and have the incident erased from his record if he stays out of trouble for 3 years.
Judges who approve shit like this need to be investigated.
@cxcope @yashar @civilrightsorg @neal_katyal Take Suggestions for Court Side?
Would like to understand how one commits vehicular assault; in Washington, it falls under RCW 46.61.522,
the story suggests it is radical motivated
so how do not get jail time attitude adjustment not go enough reason
@cxcope @yashar @civilrightsorg
How would Citizens from another State find out what the sentencing guideline allow? That they needed an attitude adjustment doesn't seem like a reason to assault individuals using a car Just Wondering Doesn't seem fundamentally fair
@cxcope @yashar "Investigated" might be a strong word, if you mean by law enforcement. Journalists should look at the judge's record. And the prosecutor who actually gave the guy the deal for the judge to approve.
