Why is Crosby one of if not the best player in the NHL?
HE WINS PUCK RACES! He gets to the puck first protects it and if he loses it works tirelessly to get it back.
FOCUS: Shoulder Checking
-Games are won and lost and the bluelines
-Shoulder checking allows a winger to see what their options are. Is a chip needed? Do I have time?
-PHI14 and PIT use their shoulder check to see the D-Man has backed off the blueline.
Brendan's Breakdown #PITvsPHI 1.13.21
FOCUS: Puck protection from PHI14
-Uses entire body including bottom hand off stick
-PHI23 gets to the net quickly and STOPS on the crease which creates chaos in front, trash time for PHI11

FORWARDS - FIND OPEN SPACE ABOVE CIRCLES
-Most teams are taught to protect the net front, which opens up a ton of space higher in the zone.
-Get LOST high in the zone! D-men rarely will follow a FWD above the circles creating confusion for your opponent.
CREATE SPACE ON THE RUSH! (@Avalanche)
-Mackinnon (COL29) creates space for his teammate (COL96) by driving to the net directly through the DMAN.
-The "pick" protects the puck carrier and allows more time to make a play.
Trouble Scoring Goals? With precise timing, the MOVING SCREEN can be deadly for your opponent! The shooter needs to be patient and allow the screen to pass through!
How can I improve your Hockey IQ? Quick Answer: Always be scanning the ice.
