The funding that @EmmanuelMacron, @vonderleyen, & @sanchezcastejon pledged at the @ParisPeaceForum will help ensure equitable access to safe COVID-19 vaccines for people around the world. The most effective response to this pandemic is also the moral one.
Ending this pandemic will require the largest public health effort in history & much more funding. So, today @gatesfoundation is committing another $70million to global efforts to develop & distribute safe, affordable, & timely vaccines for low- & middle-income countries
The bulk of our commitment ($50 million) will go to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) of @Gavi which aims to secure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for 92 low- and middle-income countries.
We welcome today's announcement from @Pfizer / @BioNTech_Group with interim data from their Phase III clinical trial indicating 90% effectiveness of their #COVID19 vaccine candidate.
